NetBurner vs Rabbit TCP speed test

Post by Forrest »

We were wondering just how fast is the fastest Rabbit Semiconductor Ethernet module when tested against the least expensive NetBurner Ethernet Core Module?

So we made a test application from the PC, set up a NetBurner MOD5270 module and Rabbit RCM5700 board and ran a speed test. We tested parsing, transmitting and receiving data. The results? See for yourself

Rabbit vs NetBurner

Full source is provided, feel free to replicate the test!

Hi Forrest,

These are great results. You might want to correct the units on the site page, though. For example, the first test took 1.4 seconds for NB and 28.9 seconds for Rabbit, and the graphic says NB is 2000x faster. It's actually 2000% faster, which is only 20x, not 2000x, and I think 20x is a more reasonable way to express the relative speed than 2000%. Those marketing guys might have gotten hold of this one.

Beyond the speed difference, I've never understood why anyone would use a platform that doesn't support ANSI standard C.

I agree with you 100%, and i will be the 1'st person to say NB is king of the hill and has the most reliable, and easiest to use products out there. With that said, i will say this, one reason to go with rabbit is cost. we needed an industrial temp product. the cheapest one we could get was the MOD5234 @ $130. while Rabbits RCM5700 is only $35 and its industrial temp. so for that price difference is worth putting up with a non ANSI C compiler and all that goes with it.

Thanks for the input Joe. I will pass that on to the person that made that page.

@seulater
NetBurner is going to release an industrial temp version of the MOD5270 core module. Keep an eye out for this.
