GND connectsion for Power Over Ethernet (PoE) Reference

Hello. We want to leverage Netburner's Power Over Ethernet (PoE) reference design found at http://www.netburner.com/power_over_ethernet.html with our MOD5270.

My question is, are the "ETH_GND" and "GND" nets to be treated as separate grounds or can they be connected?

The are connected internally on the MOD5270-200
Connecting them externally will cause a ground loop.
