Is there a virtual serial port driver for Window?
In other words: can I run old software that is looking for a standard com port to connect to a serial device connected through ethernet/IP and an SB-72? Out of the box?
Thanks.
Windows virtual serial ports that work with SB-72 etc?
Re: Windows virtual serial ports that work with SB-72 etc?
There is a open source project called com0com (http://com0com.sourceforge.net) that allows you to create virtual serial ports. I have used com0com to create virtual serial ports and it works very well. It has and addon that will let it work with TCP connections, but I have not used it with TCP, so I can't tell you how well that part works.
Another freeware product I looked at recently was from Eterlogic (http://www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html). It also worked well for creating virtual serial ports, and it it is supposed to be able to go from TCP to serial, once again, I did not try the TCP functionality.
One of those will *probably* work for you, if not there are commercial applications available.
