I am able to perform you test from my laptop(windows machine) For some reason I cannot get this netburner to talk directly to the hardware I am using. I can use only one port but much have a switch for it communicate.
I am able to communicate directly to this device with a MOD54415 Rev1.5 board and also my laptop with the same cables. IS there something I am missing electrically between the 54417 and the 54415. That seems like a silly question but is all I can think of being different.

Can you clarify what the difference is between your hardware and the laptop? Do you have other network hardware you made yourself?

One difference is the configuration. Seems like you are in individual port mode. What are the IP settings of: your PC, 54417 port 1, 54417 port 2, and what you are referring to as your hardware?
