5234 Ethernet Connection

Post by matthewjewell »

I am trying to connect to a 5234 using my own carrier board but am unable to establish an Ethernet connection and I am not sure if it is a problem with my hardware, the software I am using, or my network setup.

In terms of hardware I have carefully mimicked the DEV 70's power conditioning circuitry, and reset button but have not included the RS-232 transceiver, USB circuitry, or RTC yet. In the past I have used my own circuitry with the 5213's and haven't had any problems.

As far as my network setup / software. I am using a PC running vista, I have temporarily disabled the firewall, and am using the latest version of IP Setup. When I click "Search Again" I get nothing. I do have one solid green and one flickering green light at the 5234's RJ-45 socket.

Any suggestions? For my next step, I plan on wiring up the UART0 and seeing if I can view status messages. Also I may have to bite the bullet and buy a legit DEV-70 to eliminate the possibility of it being bad hardware.

Thanks for the help!

Writing to the uart is a good idea.
What is the current capability of your power supply?
Do you have led's on your board? Those are a good check against gpio lines to verify operation

Are you connecting directly to the PC via Ethernet? If so, are you using a cross-over cable?
If you are going through a router, can you see the 5234 in the router table?
Is the 5234 set up with an IP address? If so, perhaps it is not on a subnet that the router or PC can access.
